About Covid-19 in the Amazon: Covid-19 devastated Peru and the entire Amazon region during 2020 and 2021. The situation is dramatically different now, with >90% of Peruvians vaccinated and boosted (considerably exceeding the rates in most countries). As of 12 October 2022, all covid-related restrictions were suspended.
About 15% of adult Peruvians are employed in tourism-related activities, so Peru works hard to make visitation safe and easy. We do still recommend that visitors be up-to-date on vaccinations, however, no proof of vaccination (of any kind) is currently required for entry into Peru.
Our appreciation of Essential Workers and First Responders
We want to recognize and honor all of the essential workers and first responders out there who are overworked, under-appreciated and over-stressed. In appreciation we are pleased to offer them our repeat client rate on trips. Qualifying individuals include:
nurses, doctors, hospital workers, paramedics, nursing home workers, home-care providers, mental health care providers, crisis intervention workers, and those who provide services to homeless, hungry, and at-risk groups of people
educators at all levels (kindergarten, primary, secondary, college/university)
others working in public education, including zoo, museum, state and national park employees
US Postal Service employees
law enforcement, fire-fighters, active and former service members, and other first responders
If you don’t fall into one of the above categories and/or if the stock market has particularly blessed you, we encourage you to make a generous tax-deductible charitable contribution to Project Amazonas (www.projectamazonas.org). All donations will go to providing medical care to remote communities in the Amazon.
