About Covid-19 in the Amazon: Covid-19 devastated Peru and the entire Amazon region during 2020 and 2021. The situation is dramatically different now, with >90% of Peruvians vaccinated and boosted (considerably exceeding the rates in most other countries). As of 12 October 2022, Peru no longer required masks on flights and in public buildings, banks or stores. All restrictions on group activities were also lifted.

About 15% of adult Peruvians are employed in tourism-related activities, so Peru has worked hard to make visitation safe and easy. Currently, MT Amazon Expeditions has a full slate of trips scheduled, but we want to do so in a safe and responsible way.

Although the pandemic may be essentially over, Covid and its ever-evolving variants is still with us. As such, we encourage all travelers to follow current (and future) CDC guidelines for preventing spread of the virus, including (where and when appropriate) mask-wearing, social distancing, and frequent hand-washing. We also very strongly recommend that only persons who are fully vaccinated, and boosted consider international travel. However, no proof of vaccination (of any kind) is currently required for entry into Peru.

Measures that we take to protect everyone include:

  • following all Peruvian national and local guidelines for preventing the spread of Covid-19; including following CDC guidelines

  • enhanced sanitation measures, including available hand sanitizer, abundant soap, etc.
